Whoa, it’s been a month since I’m not updating this blog at all. There’s big change in my life, my mother passed away last month, and I need to go back to Indonesia as soon as possible for a week(I really-really hate soekarno-hatta airport, they made me need to stay in jakarta for 16 hours). Back to KL, live goes on. 2 assignments are waiting to be finished in a rush for 2 weeks(normally, this project took a month), exam, and then holiday.

Just after the exam my fellas are asked me to watch movie(FYI, this is my 2nd time watch cinemas in KL). Batman the dark night is good-if you don’t want to say its bad- and then take a deep to do my hobby, photography (some of the pictures you can see it in my flickr page, just click the widget in this blog). Suddenly APIIT asked me to take photographic picture of new student registration. Soon I will updload it to my flickr page. After my clients see it of course

Now, why I choose this blog title come home at 3.20.

There’s Indonesian Independence day celebration in APIIT-TPM, so we made the decoration and everything until 3.20 am. When i published this post, I don’t even sleep yet. But still there’s a lot of work to do. Today, I need to arrange studio for jamming session(to perform in APIIT on 17-18 August, and then friday 22nd August). Take my friend to airport, and then finished the decoration.

By the way, I’m also representing my college to join Independence Ceremony in Indonesian Embassy on 17th August.

So I hope that’s explain why I’m not updating this blog with technology stuff.

Rethinks:MS Silverlight, will it changed Ms. Office? Or just Adobe competitor? June 5, 2008

image A few weeks ago, Microsoft announced their new technology, they called it Adobe Flash killer. Even it’s Adobe Flash competitor, Microsoft offering is different from Adobe’s in some features.

Here is some features that Adobe Flash doesn’t have it :

 The CLR

Microsoft Silverlight include a mini-CLR (Common Language Runtime) from .NET, which is mean you can create Silverlight applet with supported programming language (at this time : C#, Javascript, VB,etc..). The most remarkable part of CLR are its speed and its size. Full Silverlight download with CLR and everything else will weigh at around 4 MB. Further to that, Silverlight application are able to access inside and outside the webpage itself. So we can expect many developers of web application tap into Silverlight runtime for both a performance and for better user enhancements and user experience.

image Multimedia

Many sites using Silverlight because of it’s multimedia ability; particularly online video. Online video has tradisionally been associated with Flash, and most user are familiar with the constraint that such video has such quality level and fullscreen viewing. Silverlight can distribute multimedia part of the application up to 720p(HD) and also in native fullscreen(not only maximized browser screen).

As with all Silverlight application, video can streamed down through IE, Firefox, Safari on both Windows and Mac OSX. If an application is doing just video and audio and doesn’t require the rest CLR features, then the total download including the codec is around 2 MB. Nowadays, site who serving online video with .wmv embedded format are already migrating to Silverlight.

Services

The same video sites that will be switching to Silverlight for content delivery will also want to consider one of the web services announced by Microsoft. The service called Silverlight Streaming and it’s allow users and developers to host their Silverlight content and apps with Microsoft, taking advantage of their extensive global network of their datacenters and their content delivery network. Best of all, this service is free, and while in alpha it allows user to download up to 4 GB of content, and stream up to 1 million minutes of online video delivery at 700 kbps, around DVD quality.

Mobile

Silverlight was demonstrated today on a Windows mobile device as part of a new service that the NBL have built. The demo showed both Silverlight applications and media streaming running on a mobile phone – so Silverlight even at this stage is about more than just the desktop browser and desktop market. With windows mobile and Symbian now the two dominant mobile platforms, I can’t see any reasons why we won’t see Silverlight on Symbian as well – thus spreading the platform across the vast majority of both desktops and mobiles, something that alternative platforms have not managed to do.

What’s Next ?

My personal opinion is that Silverlight is great and that Microsoft have done very well to bring .NET to the browser (almost all browsers). What will be interesting to follow will be designer adoption of Expression Studio (as Adobe is heavily entrenched here) and then consumer adoption of Silverlight. There is no doubt that it will take time for Silverlight to hit the browsers and it is up against Flash which is deeply entrenched – but the barrier to delivering a new plugin to browsers is nowhere near as high as most users will trust Microsoft as the publisher of the plugin and will install it.

Now, with all the features above, it seems Silverlight has beat Flash in many sides, except users. Because most popular online video still using Flash as their engine, it seems Silverlight must convinced the developers to migrating. But in my personal opinion also, it’s ready to replace all the content for Microsoft Office. 🙂

What do you think ?

The Blue Energy (Hoax goes to President Office) June 3, 2008

Indonesian President, Mr. Dr. Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono has raised the petrol price for up to 30% on May 23rd, 2008. This is caused of world oil price is increased up to $137 per barrel.

image In the other place, there is also Indonesian named Joko Suprapto said that he can create petrol from plain water. This guy also make his own exhibition in UN-CC(United Nations-Climate Change) Conference in Bali, and successfully attracted attention from many people including Mr. President. “a winner for Indonesia”, said Mr. President. Maybe he think this is the solution to finish the petrol problem. Then he set his own staff, Mr. Heru Lelono to become the chairman of this invention. Some people said this is magic.

And now the magic faded.

Many Indonesian -real-scientist asking about this technology either it’s true or a hoax. Joko Suprapto who claimed himself found this technology didn’t give a proper answer. He only said this invention is based on Al-Qur’an which said that water is the source of the energy. Well, Mr Joko, im a moslem and i disagree with your way to explain. science need to be scientifically proven. since you are not answering about this technology(How you make it, and is it feasible to develop question) i still believe that you are spreading a hoax. Mr Joko using a patriotic jargon to marketing his technology(which is under question). he said, “This is fuel from Republic of Indonesia”. this is also how Mr. Joko gained it’s popularity and sympathy.

Public said that even Thomas Alfa Edison is underestimated while he invented the lamp. Galileo is also denied by the church when published the fact that the earth is actually globe.

My personal answer is. Both case(Thomas Alfa Edison & Galileo) are totally different. many Indonesian scientist wants to help if there’s technology/invention that can help indonesia’s energy problem. I’m still curious how come this invention(if this is called invention) can up to president desk?

Well Mr. President, I know you are not a scientist. But out theres a lot of scientist that you can ask for help. 🙂

Finally, Microsoft released software that they claimed it can change the world.

This software need fast internet connection to download the data. fortunately myself live in a country which has broadband internet. but it’s still a bit slow for me :).

Here are the minimum system requirements.

  • Microsoft® XP SP2 (minimum), Windows® Vista® (recommended)
  • PC with Intel Core 2 Duo processor with 2 gigahertz (GHz) or faster, recommended
  • 1 gigabyte (GB) of RAM; 2 GB RAM recommended
  • 3D accelerated card with 128 megabytes (MB) RAM; discrete graphics card with dedicated 256-MB VRAM recommended for higher performance
  • 1 GB of available hard disk space; 10 GB recommended for off-line features and higher performance browsing
  • XGA (1024 x 768) or higher resolution monitor
  • Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing and scrolling device
  • Microsoft® DirectX® version 9.0c and .NET Framework 2.0
  • Required for some features; Internet connection at 56 Kbps or higher.

Software screenshot, it tells where the picture was downloaded from internet.

I think it’s more to games requirements rather than astronomical software. But you will love it when you see the Graphical User Interface (GUI), especially if youre very interested in astronomics.  The WorldWide Telescope takes images from several location in internet and put them together into a virtual night sky.

Theres also a guided virtual tours. You can choose 30 installed guided tours. just sit back and watch the tour like a real astronomer (or even for 5 year-old kids) and control the software. you can pause the tour and take a look on your own, then resume the show or jump to the another tour.

You also can jump to earth. But the image quality is not as good as google earth anyway.

So? Will it change the world? You Decide.

Want to buy the new powerbook with Leopard but with limited budget?

Or just wanna OSX-looks-on-your-Vista?

I think I have the solution..Why you not try cool software from vistaosx.net, it’s include almost everything. I already downloaded it and try in my ASUS F9S series, with vista SP1(yeah, the software need Vista SP1 to install), CPU Core2Duo T7300 with 2GB ram. and it’s works almost perfectly, except the system running heavier than before, this is because the software load a lot of modules on startup. but I think it is worth it than you buy a new MacBook to just have a OSX but almost all of your work you’re doing is actually on Windows right?

This software done almost everything. The dock, animations, sounds, branding, theme, and on the site, it’s promised that I will have OSX startup logo, but i didn’t see the Mac startup logo on my laptop. is it a bug? or Microsoft found a new way to protecting their startup logo? I don’t know yet.

Why I say almost everything? it’s because you still have “start menu” on your desktop but it’s replaced with apple logo(Of course, it still Windows ).

Well, if someone interested please surf to http://www.vistaosx.net to find more information but if you want to download directly from rapidshare, here is the link.

and here is my desktop screenshot after installing the packages.
